Cosmetic use of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections are used for cosmetic purposes to enhance collagen production in the age-affected (collagen-poor) areas of the face, neck, arms and hands.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is prepared from the patient’s own blood using advanced technology. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) contains huge reservoirs of bioactive proteins, including growth factors that initiate and accelerate repair and the regeneration of collagen by attracting stem cells to the areas of the face which require volume.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) rejuvenates the appearance. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) can be used to improve lines between the eyebrows, forehead lines, periorbital lines (crow’s feet), nasolabial folds, vertical lip lines, marionette lines (lines from the corners of the mouth to the chin). Platelet-Rich Plasma(PRP) is a kind of natural filler with no risk of allergic reaction which uses bodies own natural process to rejuvenate tissues.

A small amount of blood (20cc-55cc) is drawn up from the patient’s vein into a syringe. The blood is spun down in a special centrifuge to separate Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) from the rest of the blood components. The platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is then injected into the area to be treated – joint, tendon, ligament. Platelets are very small cells in the blood that are involved in the clotting process. When Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is injected into the damaged area it causes a mild inflammation that triggers the healing cascade.  Platelets release a number of enzymes and growth factors that attract stem cells to repair the damaged area. As a result new collagen begins to develop. As the collagen matures it begins to shrink causing the tightening and strengthening of the skin.  When treating aging tissue platelets can induce a remodeling of the tissue to a healthier and younger state.  The full procedure takes approximately 45 minutes – 1 hr.  Generally 2-3 treatments are advised, however, sometimes one may be enough.
