Homeopathy

Many people mistakenly consider Homeopathy to be a herbal treatment.  Indeed plants are used in homeopathy, but they constitute only a fraction of homeopathic remedies. Animal and mineral remedies are also used extensively for healing purposes. The main aspect of homeopathy that distinguishes this method is treatment according to the “Principle of Simillimum” – “Like Cures Like”. It means that patient can be treated with a substance that is able to cause the same symptoms in healthy individual.  “Homeos” in Greek stands for similar, “pathos” for disease.

Homeopathy was founded by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann about 200 years ago. He was the first to establish the new system of treatment based on “Like Cures Like” principle. This new healing system turned to be very successful. He also discovered that homeopathic remedies work very well in highly diluted form. The main advantage of using micro-doses is the lack of side effects.

Traditional Western Medicine is considered to be based on allopathic principle. Allopathic means “Treatment with the Opposite.” The main (and probably the only) reasonable example that is used to illustrate the principle  of “opposites” is “treat heat with cold application, and treat cold with  heat application”. There are no “opposites” to most symptoms. What is the “opposite” to burning pain on urination? What is the opposite to dry cough in the morning? It means that principle of “Treatment with the Opposite” is one of those medical theories that are highly constrained in their applicability to the real world.

In traditional Medicine medications are chosen according to diagnoses. The common notion is that if we know the “diagnosis”, we know which “pill”  should help.  In homeopathic medicine the choice of medication is not correlated with the name of disease; contrary to traditional medicine, diagnosis is not the “focus of attention”. Patients with the same clinical diagnosis often benefit from different homeopathic remedies.  Homeopathic prescription are made on the basis of totality of symptoms – physical, emotional and psychological.

Any disease can be treated with homeopathic approach. Speed of recovery depends on the stage of disease.
